Abstract

• Using the 2019 Census ASEC, I programmed microsimulations in R of three policy proposals for a Child Tax Credit expansion (aka child benefit). I then estimated their effect on the child poverty rate.

• Results of the simulation suggest the recent child benefit expansion in the American Rescue Plan would have reduced child poverty by 30.7% in 2019.

• Cost-benefit analysis indicates the program has a return on investment to society of roughly 736%.
